Prof. Dr. Frank Winkler is the managing senior physician at the Neurology clinic of University Hospital Heidelberg and the head of the research group Experimental Neurooncology at German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). Prof. Winkler is interested in clinically relevant, but also basic questions in cancer research, focussing on mechanisms of tumor growth in the brain, and how the nervous system stimulates it in the brain and beyond. An overarching topic of his research is “Cancer Neuroscience”, a rapidly evolving field of research. He is recipient of the prestigious German Cancer Award (2022) and Brain Prize (2025).
