Andreas Trumpp heads the Division of Stem Cells and Cancer at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), and is Founding Managing Director of the Heidelberg Institute for Stem Cell Technology and Experimental Medicine (HI-STEM gGmbH) in Heidelberg, Germany. He is also the coordinator of the Research Program 1, Cell and Tumor Biology at the DKFZ and Co-director of the DKFZ-ZMBH Alliance. One of the goals of his team is to elucidate the molecular and cellular basis of hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal and differentiation as well as to characterize the complex dynamic interactions within the stem cell-niche unit. In addition, the group pursues a program to functionally characterize malignant stem cells of leukemias and carcinomas at various levels. His team focusses on AML, breast- and pancreatic cancers aiming to identify and overcome resistance mechanisms within a personalized and precision oncology framework. He is the recipient of EMBO Young Investigator Award, Swiss Bridge Award, Baden-Württemberg Federal Research Award and German Cancer Prize, among many others.
