Simon Renders studied medicine at Heidelberg University. He is a Physician Scientist at the University Hospital Heidelberg in Hematology, Oncology Clinic and German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) as well as HI-STEM gGmbH. His research focuses on interaction of neurons with cancer cells and their microenvironment; plasticity and sensitivity of AML cancer stem cells to pro-apoptotic therapies with the aim of developing novel biomarkers for personalized therapies and unraveling the molecular mechanisms of acquired resistance. Simon Renders has received the best PhD Dissertation Award 2022 from German Society of Hematology and Medical Oncology for his research on Netrin-1 function in regulating self-renewal and dormancy of hematopoietic stem cells.
